About this time in 1866, many mining engineers were working diligently
to find processing methods that worked for the Colorado mines, particularly
at Black Hawk and Central City, where sulfide ores were problematic. My
guess this company was for that purpose. A thorough scan of the Mining
and Scientific press might yield more results. Est $150-300 HUMBOLDT 1003. Humboldt. Dyke. Nevada

Another mine in the area was Homer Verne Mine. George Lane was not a resident of Winnemucca for very long when
this company was recorded, as he is not listed in the directories. Florence never had a post office, and may have
only lasted a few months. Nonetheless,
neither site is listed in Nevada Place Names. (Ref: Tingley). Est. $25-50 1004. Humboldt. First Mississippi Corp. Specimen.

Leasing was not mentioned in Rices My Adventures With Your Money,
the book he wrote while in lockup, before the companys incorporation. But by 1917, Rice was back in the saddle, and
by 1920, had the cops hot on his tail once again. But in spite of Rices shady business ventures, National remained
an up and coming, high production mining camp, with $4 million in gold
and silver between 1909 and 1940, mainly brought in by the National Mining
Company. By 1917, National Leasing
company was obsolete, and all holdings were given to National MC. Xf, small ink blotch at right. 6 x 9 1/2. Est. $10-25 1008. Humboldt. National.

1880s, but the first important discovery was made in 1933 and purchased
shortly after by Noble Getchell. His
mine produced nearly $40 million in gold, arsenic and tungsten before
1970. During the period 1939-1941,
the Getchell mine was the leading gold producer in Nevada. Between 1938 and 1963, the Potosi-Getchell
district produced over 206,000 ounces of gold, 30,000 ounces of silver
and nearly $30 million in tungsten. Tear

credited with his wife and daughter as the first females to make it across
the plains to California. He was elected to the California legislature
in 1849. In 1852 he was elected Californias second governor,

Six small vignettes of miners incorporated into border design.
Black border, gilt seal and safety print. Printer Goes. 11 x 8.
Uncancelled. The seal has a gold bar in it. Gold Park is in a beautiful wild rose lined

1870s when a small mining camp was there. It died fairly quickly, having
a typical rebirth after 1900. A nice mill was built just after 1900 which
operated for several years. Unfortunately, Couch & Carpenter missed
the district when they wrote the production summary of the state in 1943.
I spent two seasons working in the mines in that district, and have been
in every mine there and can easily assure you that there are very large
stopes quietly testifying of real production.-fh. This certificate is
completely torn along the two folds, and there is tape residue along the
left fold. We did not repair it, but would do so upon request at no cost.

x 11. Stub attached. This company was a reorganization of the Nevada
Central Railway Co which had its beginnings in Austin in 1880. They defaulted
on some loans in 1885 and went into receivership. The original founder, Anson Stokes (Stokes
Castle) took over the new company in 1888.
The company owed its success to Stokes, who saw the need for important
changes in the way Austin did their rail and mining business. Stokes ran a tunnel 6000 feet underground under
Lander Hill for exploration. He
also formed the Austin Mining Co. to mine ores. In 1897, Stokes built
the Stokes castle just outside the Austin town limits for his son, a recent
graduate of Columbia with a medical degree.
Tasker Oddie, later governor of Nevada, found that one of Stokes
employees had embezzled $300,000. It stopped the Railroad dead for awhile. Myrick, in Railroads of Nevada has a

A big producer in Lincoln County, the Mendha mine was only recorded
as having produced $150,000 in C&C, which probably didnt include
what was taken out of the underground stopes.

Wyandotte is featured in Brushwork Diary: Watercolors of
Early Nevada, text and compilation by Michael J. Brodhead and
James C. McCormick, with artwork by Walter S. Long.
Located in the Tem Piute Mining District of Lincoln County, the
Wyandotte was a small producing mine, with a mere $720 in production recorded
in Burchard in 1882. Perhaps, though, the charm is caught in Longs
water color renderings. Highlighted
in his collection of paintings is a map of the mine and works, windlass,
various shafts and a blacksmith shop. All of these paintings capture the feel of
the mine and mining town of the 19th century, recreating a landscape
many artists of the 19th century would have loathed to attempt. Full Color dust jacket, featuring a sample
of the artwork, Rescue Hose House.

The Blue Sulphur Springs district is not listed in Stretch or Lincoln,
or any other references we located, including the 1862 and 1863 Territorial
directories. Their office was in Virginia City. We were also unable to find a Robinson mine or sulphur spring in
Lyon County. My tendency is to suspect the Palmyra area, but I have no
proof. Often a group of miners would stake a batch of claims and call
it their own district, usually with 15 or more claims comprising the district.
The name may not have stuck, as the lack of specific reference material
might indicate. W. Price lived at the Virginia Hotel in VC,
as did Rich Ross, a probable drinking buddy. Tilford was not a resident
of the Virginia City area in 1863, but was an attorney in San Francisco.
He was also a collections agent, thus was probably adept at getting money
for his prospecting enterprise. Rare. Est. $600-1000 1067. Lyon. Carson River(?) Carson River Placer Mining & Dredging Co. Cert.#2859.

There is no organized district for this stock. Many of the important
mills for the Comstock were on the Carson River between Gold Canyon and
Empire. Since their erection,
the mills processed millions of tons of ore. But some of the gold and
silver would escape in the tails, which were also mined and reprocessed.
This company was one such company that went after the tailings. Rare.

ore, the Ludwig also contained a large deposit of gypsum, which proved
to be of high commercial value, being mined at a rate of 50 tons per day
in 1913. Total production averaged about 331 tons per
day, 4.25% copper, which by 1913 had increased to over 6% fine copper

Yerington Drilling Campaign, Winter 1913-1914. Lot of 12 pcs. Six holes were drilled during November, 1913 and April, 1914.
There is a sheet for each of the drill holes and the data which
includes depths and assays. There are four sheets where several of the
drill holes were plotted and a interpretive cross section of the geologic
was superposed. There are two
sheets that show the statistical cost and time required for the drilling
campaign. The drilling cost statement shows that in 1914,
churn drilling cost $50 per foot. That
is hardly less than todays costs when we can drill 200+ feet easily in
an eight hour shift. The other
statistical sheet shows that in one shift (8-10 hours) only 13.90 feet
was drilled. Those numbers are
so foreign today the exploration geologists.
One could almost hand dig that deep in one shift. The company for whom the drilling campaign
is noted on the sheets. All are
hand drawn on blue linen paper. The
single drill hole sheets have tears and pieces missing at the top of 5
of the 6 sheets. Very fine. Est. $100-300 MINERAL 1088. Mineral. Basalt(?).

No photographer noted. Unused. The
letter is written on blue paper with Rawhide Chamber of Commerce and Mines
in blue print. There are two pages
but it seems from the text that there should be at least one more sheet.
The contents of the letter discuss a trip from Goldfield to Diamond
Field to investigate some property. The
writer discussed how bad the Mr. Connors (guide?) horses are.
The letter goes on to talk of Mr. Connor showing them a property
after their return to Goldfield and continued problems with the horses. In fact, when Mr. Conner left the buggy to
go find the stakes that marked the property, Mr. Richards (who was accompanying
the writer) had the reins break free from the horses. He jumped leaving the writer of the letter on the buggy and running
down the trail and who apparently got bumped out or jumped. This is where the text stops on the second
page. No signature or date offered.
