The bonds were issued to purchase 123 acres in Glen Echo, Montgomery County, Maryland, presumably to build and develop a golf course. Bannockburn is a town in Scotland and Australia. The Australian town has a major golf course today (internet search). The town of Glen Echo is part of the Dept of Interior today as is run as a park by the Federal Government. In the late 1880’s, two brothers invented that oscillating egg beater. After the sale of the factory and patent, the brothers purchased the ground of Glen Echo and wanted to turn it into a resort town, which somewhat succeeded. An amusement park was in operation from the mid 1930’s through 1970. These bonds mark an early attempt to publicly finance a golf course. Both extremely fine. Est. $100-200 730. Michigan. It is a detailed geologic discussion of the region, complete with a few single page maps. It says little, if anything about ore deposits, which may not be present in the region. It was intended as a scholarly discussion of the regional metamorphism. Bulletin covers the Greenstone schist areas of the Menominee and Marquette regions of Michigan. The view is of two miners in a timbered tunnel, one is swinging a sledge and the other is holding a steel drill. There ate three different candlesticks visible with lit candles. The stereocard is captioned “7947 - Iron miners at work in an underground ‘drift’, Seller’s Mine, Hibbing, Minn.” The reverse has a description of the scene and a brief insight into the life of a mine. Black print on brown paper. Folded three times. Perry Cave is a registered Ohio Natural Landmark, and is a classic limestone (karst) cave. The cave is 208 feet long and 165 feet wide with stalachtites and other curious formations. Commodore Oliver Hazard Perry, hero of the battle of Lake Erie, discovered the cave around 1815. Prior to 1919, the Victory Hotel, at that time the largest hotel in the world, used the water from a lake found within the cave (www.perrycave.com). Fine to very fine. Est. $50-150 736. Oklahoma. Edges are little rough but overall a very attractive piece. There are no records within our library concerning this company and no Stafford Meadows in PA, perhaps just a local name. However, the name of this company is very intriguing indicating that they were involved in several projects. As of 1908, the company was idle (Copper Hdbk., 1908, pp.789-790). Green border, with a wonderful vignette of a miner being lowered down a shaft by ore bucket.
