595. Connecticut. East Lyme. US Stamped Connecticut Cover. US 63, A24, 73, A32, on cover with light to medium cancel. Envelope, 3 x 5, cut open at left edge. East Lyme, Con. pound postmark at left, very clear. Minor tear to bottom left of cover. Est. $100-200

596. General. Schuyler Rumsey Philatelic Auctions Catalogs. Lot of 4 Volumes. Sale numbers 6, 7, 9, 11. 1999-2001. Each has black and white, as well as full color images of items for sale. Also available is a bounty of information for the philatelic collector. Xf, soft bound, each with a different full color cover. Est. $10-20

597. General. Stamp Collection for Starters. A box full of stamps that are still adhered to the covers they were mailed on. This box probably has over 3000 pieces. The lot also includes a “Scott’s Minuteman Album For United States Stamps.” The book has about 800 stamps adhered to collector’s pages. A wonderful beginning to the hobby of collecting stamps. 598. General. Western Express Cover Society Journal Collection. Western express is considered the top research media for collectors and historians interested in Western Express Companies. The early issues represent information found by early collectors often lost today. This collection belonged to editor A. J. Hertz. Contains a set of 7 notebooks of his alphabetical listing of express covers and history’s with photographs of representative covers. The first journal marks the start up of the Western Express Cover Society and corresponding newsletters. There are nine volumes through 1967 and another 30 issues from the 1990’s. Total 2.7 cubic feet of printed information within notebooks and original bound newsletters. Very fine. Indispensable to the Express collector or historian. Est. $200-400

601. France. Revenue. American Express Company Foreign Revenue Stamped Receipts. Lot of 3 different 25 cents, Timbre Fiscal, American Express , Inc, light to medium cancel by rubber stamp dated 1931. On American Express deposit receipt 7 x 5. Printed by H. Walters & Son Ltd, Liverpool, England. Stamps are very fine to extremely fine condition. Forms are fine condition, with folds, and some tears at folds. Est. $20-40

Vignette at upper left of three miners underground. Vignette at upper right of the Capitol Building. Black border with purple safety print and underprint. Uncancelled. Printer - Major & Knapp. 8 x 11. Orange 25 cent imprinted revenue stamp at lower center. Revenue is a RN-T4 and is unlisted in Castenholz. Reported as one of only 2 known. Extremely fine. Vignette at upper left of miners underground. Vignette at upper right of the Capitol Building. Black border with light green safety print and underprint with a light brown underprint as well. Uncancelled. Printer - Major & Knapp. 8 x 11. Orange 25 cent imprinted revenue stamp at lower center. Revenue is a RN-T4 and is unlisted in Castenholz. Reported as one of only 2 known. Dateline at Boston. Signed by Quincy A. Shaw, president and Chas. W. Seabury, treasurer. No vignette. 25 cent Imprinted Revenue at center. Unlisted in Castenholz. Cancelled by hole punches. Printer – American Bank Note, N.Y. 8 x 9. This is the original company that operated the Hecla Mine which was later merged with the Hecla to form Calumet and Hecla. Some tears on stub at left. Extremely fine. Est.$ 750-1200

606. Nevada. Storey. Virginia City. Revenue. Chollar Potosi MC, Bank of California RN-B17d Check, 1869. This is the premium collector’s check for Nevada. Chollar Potosi Mining Company printed at left around an imprinted Nevada 2 cent state tax. Datelined Virginia, Nev. 1869. Signed by Isaac Requa. Imprinted revenue stamp at middle in orage. The check was originally purple but now has been bleached to a brown color. Check #6122. Minor stains at right edge. There are only 4 or 5 of this style check known to exist. Requa and his brother were both graduates of the German Frieberg School of Mines. Very fine. Est. $1500-3000

GENERAL POSTAL HISTORY

607. Civil War. Confederate Stamps and Covers. The first is a Confederate #11, A7, light blue 10 cent, with manuscript cancel at Cartwright, GA, 1863 or 1865. Red wax seal broken at back. Quite soiled, but stamp and cover very clear. The second two are probably #6, A4 Confederate 5 cents, cancellation illegible, with right stamp damaged as original. Cover opened at back, addressed to Richmond, VA. Both are quite soiled, but in fine condition otherwise. $150- $300

From various Nevada towns including Fay, Duckwater, Edgemont, Fairview, Overton, Paradise Valley, Preston, and Skelton. 3 x 5 . Fine condition, but most are oil damaged. Est. $50-100

Broy, P.M. stamped at bottom; Registry Bill from Eureka to Hot Creek, NV, 1906, postmarked. First has hole punched at right side. All very fine. 3” x 5”. Est. $50-100

614. Pennsylvania. Berks. Reading. Isaac W. Keim Advertising Postcard, 1883. This 3 x 5 card was a postcard mailing perhaps to Isaac W. Keim’s customers. The front of the postcard is postmarked Reading, PA and has a preprinted 1¢ stamp with a masthead at the left of U. S. Postcard. The reverse of the card has the announcement “TRADE DOLLARS WANTED!”. Isaac Keim was a dealer of “PURE OLD RYE WHISKIES, BRANDIES, GINS, BITTERS, NEW ENGLAND RUMS, WINES, and OTHER KINDS OF PURE LIQUORS FOR THE SUMMER AND FALL SEASONS AND FOR MEDICINAL PURPOSES, etc, etc,. ALSO, ALCOHOL A SPECIALITY.” The proprietor appears to be willing to accept trade dollars from other vendors. The coals mines were the most prolific source of trade dollars, especially in Pennsylvania in the 1880’s. The card is date 1883. Several pin holes along the left edge. Very fine. Est. $25-50
