Each has a descriptive narrative on reverse. All of the cards were published by Keystone View Co. The Dyea Trail to the Alaskan & Yukon goldfields was arguably the most brutal of all mining routes. The ascent of Chilcoot was an incredible event, indeed, several books have been written on the subject. Once the miners climbed about 1000 vertical feet with their goods on their backs, they started a pile, then returned to the bottom for more. After all their supplies were at the top of the trail, the Canadian Mounties inspected each prospector, who was required to carry one ton of supplies, supposedly guaranteeing that they could make it through the winter. These wonderful photos are from the gold rush period and help tell the story visually. Xf. Est. $150-300
