This lot contains 2 letterheads written to Isrea hay regarding stock purchases, 5 payment receipts and 2 stock certificates. (For similar lots from the Hay family please see Missouri, Pralin Mines Co and Arizona, Yavapai, Cons. Copper Creek MC). Cert. #2986 & #4046. Issued to Isreal Hay for 60 and 100 shares. Signed by J. L. Phelps president and B. L. Hamner secretary. Vignette of a mining camp on a treeless slope with two smaller vignettes of miners underground. Gold border, seal and safety print. Uncancelled. Printer - Goes. This company is not listed in the Mines Handbooks. Ocampo was a real district in Chihuahua even prior to 1910. But the stock promoter, N. P. Ladd, who was in business with Dumm, in Kansas City, were running fraudulent stock schemes. This was found out from a company they were promoting in Arizona (please see Yavapai, Cons. Copper Creek MC). Around 1910, Poncho Villa ran all Americans out the state of Chihuahua. In fact he offered an free train ride to the border for the remaining geologists and geologic engineers. As the train approached a location known as Creel, Poncho Villa had the train stopped and killed the 24 men. Mining has never been an easy business. All are Vf. Est. $50-100

1190. Mexico. Chihuahua. Esmeralda-Parral Mining Co. Incorporated in Delaware in 1907. Certificate no. 2341 issued to Anderson Company May 24, 1940 for 100 shares. Signed by William P. Hairman, president, and Joseph M. Peale, asst. treasurer. Vignette at top center of mountain scene with a mining camp, upper left of three underground miners with a Burleigh drill, and upper right of two miners loading a charge and working by miner’s lamp. Part of the Esmeralda group, the Esmeralda Parral was a silver-lead producer, employing 50 men (International Mining Manual, 1911, p.229). W. Claybourne secretary. Vignette of a mining camp on a treeless slope with two smaller vignettes of miners underground. Gold border, seal and safety print. Uncancelled. Printer - Goes. 8 x 11. This company is not listed in Garbani nor the Mines Handbooks. There is an Old Colony Copper Co that operated in Michigan for at least 30 years. It was very common in the early part of the 20th century for companies to incorporate in Arizona for tax purposes. This may have been a company that borrowed, or stole, the namesake of Old Colony. MISSOURI

1195. Jasper. Chitwood. Pralin Mines Co Certificates & Correspondence Collection, 1907. Lot of 23 documents. The correspondence is between I. W. Drumm, the financial agent for Pralin Mines Co, and Isreal Hay of Missouri. During the spring and into summer, Hay bought three different lots of stock in Pralin MC. The stock was 5 cents per share. Eight (8) of the documents are these correspondence between Drumm and Hay. There are 10 receipts for payments made on stock purchases. There are 3 stock certificates, one issued to Isreal Hay for 300 shares, and 2 issued to Lydia Hay for 300 & 400 shares, all issued in 1907. Signed by Harvey president and H. L. Wheaton secretary. Vignette of a mill next to a stream with vignettes at each side of miners underground. Green border and seal. All uncancelled. 8 x 11”. Printer -Goes. It is no wonder the certificates are uncancelled. There is a letter from the Secretary of State for Missouri, dated 1925, informing the requester that Pralin Mines Co had forfeited its charter in 1913. Pralin Mines Co is not listed in the Mines Handbook. The company was probably mining lead-zinc ore. Xf. Est. $75-150

This token is concave on reverse being that the reverse shows pounding as if made from another item, maybe an old U. S. 50 cent piece. Polaris is a remnant of a town with a minimal population. In 1885, the Polaris Mine was opened near Grasshopper Creek with ore being shipped to Dillon. In 1892, the Silver Fissure MC, of New York, built a 40 mile road to Armstead.
