Each barrel has a name on the end plate such as "Jockey Club" etc. 1890. Printed by Crocker, Sacramento. 8 x 8" Chesley made some of the most famous of the western whiskey bottles, including embossed pumpkinseed flasks, and fifths. Est. $25-75

1148. California. San Francisco. A. P. Hotaling & Co. Billhead, 1865. Black on blue, noted on the billhead was a sale for Occidental Whiskey. 6 x 8". Hotaling was another of the very popular western whiskey brands with embossed fifths. In our Auction #14, we sold the whiskey box for these fifths. Est. $25-75

1150. California. San Francisco. Famous Whiskey Merchants Checks, 1877. Lot of different checks. Both of the merchants used personalized embossed bottles. Weil Brothers, 1877 and Louis Taussig, 1877, both on Bank of Napa checks with blue adhesive revenue stamps at upper right corner. Both were payable in silver coin as noted at lower left. 1152. Whiskey. Jake's (Saloon) large embossed clear, mint, pumpkinseed whiskey flask embossed with a classic New Orleans style drunk hanging on a gas lamp post exclaiming "I got my fill at Jake's but where did I eat that dog?" The drunk has just vomited, and a dog is inspecting the spoils. This is one of the great whiskey flasks, and the only one that we know of that is humorous. There has been much speculation about where Jake's was located, but so far, we have no real proof. Regardless, this is a humdinger. Very rare. Est. $250-400
